The World Health Organization (WHO) and most pediatric associations (such as the Spanish Association of Pediatrics), recommend exclusive breastfeeding of the baby until 6 months of age.

The matron Sara caƱamero gives us some advice so that we can prolong breastfeeding up to 6 months of our child without any problem.

Babies don't need anything other than breastfeeding until six months of age. Thereafter, it is recommended to incorporate other flavors and textures into your diet. To ensure that this breastfeeding is satisfactory for our child, it is good to follow these series of tips:

- Breastfeeding should be calm and unhurried: it is about breastfeeding without a clock, without times, without haste. The baby sets the guidelines for how much milk he needs and when.

- The baby sets the rhythm of breastfeeding, because the body of the mother and the baby have to keep pace. Therefore, it is preferable to forget those outdated recommendations to breastfeed every three hours for twenty minutes. Some babies finish sucking in five minutes, while others need twenty.

- Know how to interpret the baby's needs: Each baby has unique needs and we need to respond to those needs. If the baby is hydrated, calm, wets the diaper normally and does not complain, everything is fine.

- Sleepy Babies: There are babies who because of their way of being, have a tendency to be asleep, especially the first days after delivery. In this case, it is best to undress them, and breastfeed only with the diaper. You can also wake them up by giving a few small touches on the soles of the feet. And above all, be very aware of the first signs of hunger.
